FOR MAY 2024 MEETING...

We will meet next at 6 PM at It's Greek To Me on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024. We will be out on the patio.

If you plan to come to this meeting, please click on the event in our event calendar and register so that we can notify It's Greek To Me as to an expected count, and they can schedule a server for us on the patio.

IMPORTANT REQUEST: If you are no longer interested in receiving our emails, please send me an email (bobpoveromo@gmail.com) and I will remove you from our mailing list.  Thanks.

On the 21st, we will discuss Burn Book: A Tech Love Story  by Kara Swisher.

Burn Book is part memoir, part history, and a necessary chronicle of tech's most powerful players.  It is the inside story we've been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world.  Swisher has interviewed everyone who matters in tech over the past three decades and right at a time when they presided over an explosion of world-changing innovation that has both helped and hurt our world.  Some names include: Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Sheryl Sandberg, Bob Iger, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Meg Whitman, Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, and Mark Zuckerberg.

Despsite the damage she has reported on, Swisher remains optimistic about tech's potential to help solve problems and not just create them.  She calls upon the industry to make better, more thoughtful choices, even as a set of new powerful AI tools is poised to change the world yet again.  At its heart, this book is a love story to, for, and about tech, from someone who knows it better than anyone.

Looking Ahead to June

In June we will read Grace: Obama and 10 Days in the Battle for Americaby Cody Keenan. This book tied for first place in our latest selection voting.  More to come on Grace in future emails.

As Always

Our usual practice is to not meet during July and August, which provides us extra months to read a larger book over the summer.  As such, please forward your recommendations for our summer read to Elliot at 4esiegel@gmail.com.

We hope to see you on May 21st at 6:00 PM at It's Greek To Me to discuss "Burn Book".

Don't forget to register for the event.

Thanks,

Elliot & Bob, Book Club Co-chairs
